Welcome to the "It's Your Town, Charlie Brown"

Charles Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts comic strip, lived and worked in our community for almost 45 years. He and his family have made, and continue to make, a profound impact on our community. Their generosity has helped hundreds of our citizens and nonprofit agencies. To honor him and the 55th Anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip, the City is hosting a very special event in the Summer of 2005. Modeled after the successful "Peanuts on Parade" program in St. Paul, Minnesota, Schulz's hometown, there will be 55 Charlie Brown statues, uniquely painted by local artists, and placed throughout our community.
The sculptures are being designed and fabricated by TivoliToo, a design and sculpture company in St. Paul that has been instrumental in the success of St. Paul's program over the past five years.

This program is perfect for a community like Santa Rosa. We are blessed with great businesses that want to support the arts, with a rich and talented artist community, and a beautiful town that can showcase Charlie Brown at his best.

The program will start with a paint-off on May 5-8, 2005, where visitors and residents alike can watch as the artists do their magic on the blank Charlie Brown sculpture. From May 22 to September 25, the 55 Charlie Brown sculptures will be displayed throughout the community. In September, we will bring all of the sculptures together in Courthouse Square and hold a community celebration. On September 25, 2005, there will be a live auction for the sculptures not purchased by the sponsor(s).

The City of Santa Rosa is very excited about this project. It will be a perfect way to honor Charles Schulz, and to showcase our community and all that it offers. This will be a project in which the entire community can get involved. Businesses and individuals are sponsoring statues, more than 90 designs were submitted by artists, and volunteers can help at events.

We hope that you will come back to the site often as we get photos of the paint-off, the individual approved designs, and of course photos of the sculptures.
We want to thank the Schulz family and TivoliToo for partnering with us in the effort. We look forward to seeing you in Summer 2005 in celebrating "It's Your Town, Charlie Brown."

Enjoy this great event,

Mayor Jane Bender
